Announcement on freezing the BSIM3v3 model and code (Oct. 30)

Dear BSIM3 users,

Since we froze and released BSIM3V3 model (equation) in Sept. 95, we have 
debugged and improved source code (implementation)  according to a lot of inputs from the users. The updated code and manual (including an updated model card 
example) are released today and  have been put on the FTP site. The method how
 to get the files from the FTP site is enclosed in the letter. We recommend 
 that users switch to the updated  code and manual, and discard the code you may have downloaded from the FTP site before. A list of the bug found in the Sept. release code and fixed in the new code is also put on the FTP site. 

We understand that our users want to keep the BSIM3 model stable yet properly
 maintained and updated. We intend to limit model equation changes to once a 
year. When the equation is changed, the model name will also be changed (to 
BSIM3v3.1 for example). The source code may be updated more frequently. The code release today is assigned 95.1. The next update may be 96.1, for example.

We would like to thank Keith Green at TI for suggesting a maintainence schedule and proceture and thank many of you  for your  comments, bug reporting,  
encouragement and support of  BSIM3 model. We would like to receive more of your inputs. We have created a Email system at our WWW site upon the requiests of  a lot of users. You can send us your input directly when you are viewing the 
model , code and manual  on WWW.

                 INSTRUCTIONS of FTP BSIM3V3 FILES:

The BSIM3 anonymous ftp site contains the following files.

  bsim3v395.1.tar.Z - a tarred and compressed file of the BSIM3v3 (95.1)
                source code directory
  bsim3v3manual.tar.Z - a tared and compressed postscript file of the BSIM3v3 
                mamual 
  bsim3v3eqnlist.ps - a postscript file of BSIM3v3 model parameter and equation                 list
  bugfixlist.ps - a postscript file of the bug-fixing list
  model.card    - a text file of the example model card of BSIM3v3
  bsim3v3_parameter_range.ps - a postscript file of recommended value ranges of 
                BSIM3v3 model parameters
  announce.10.30.95 - a text file of announcement on Oct. 30, 1995
  
This is the procedure to obtain these files.
  1.  ftp rely.eecs.berkeley.edu
         or
      ftp 128.32.156.10

  2. login in as "anonymous"
  3. Enter <you email address> as the password.
  4. Type "binary"
  5. Change directory to /pub
  6. Use "get" to obtain the files.

Once bsim3v395.1.tar.Z is in your directory, type the commands
  uncompress bsim3v395.1.tar.Z
  tar -xvf bsim3v395.1.tar

and a directory /bsim3 will be created containing all of the BSIM3 files.

To print a postscript file, type

  uncompress bsim3v3manual.tar.Z
  tar bsim3v3manual.tar
and a directory /psfile will be created containing all of the files for the
BSIM3v3  manual.
